Summer Bible Camp. Asher and I both got to be a part of Summer Bible Camp this year. Asher L-O-V-E-D the week! And, I wouldn’t have these pictures of Asher if not for the wonderful, Summer! Thank you!
I was really nervous about how things would go with Asher’s health, and whether or not we would be able to be there on time each morning, but it all worked out, and the memories continue on in our home. Asher is still talking about skits Daddy played a part in on stage, and the CD of music is a constant request in our car. I served with the 3rd graders, and thankfully we were sitting just a few rows in front of Asher’s class in the Chapel, so I got to peep in on him without him knowing. It was so sweet to see him peeled to what was happening on stage, and to watch him singing along to the songs and doing the hand motions. All of the effort and need to be organized and timely was worth it!
It was though, a major reality check for me, and the challenges Asher (and us) are going to face with school. We honestly haven’t decided what we’re going to do about school with Asher. School kind of scares me…especially during the winter months. We really don’t know what to do. We have a little boy who LOVES to be around people, and thrives in a social setting…and, we have a mom who is no where near the “educating the future minds of America” status, ha! If Jeremy could figure out a way to both work and home school Asher we would be set :).
ANYWAYS, the week was amazing and amazingly exhausting all at the same time. Asher was also on his rotation of Tobi during this week, so that tacks on about 20 extra minutes (less though with our new fancy compressor, thanks, Ronnie!) . It was a reality check for us because besides the few times in his life that we’ve had to wake him up early to do his treatment for dr’s appointments, this was the first solid week of waking him early just so he could do his treatment and eat. Not only does Asher have to do his treatment in the morning, but he also has to have a high fat/calorie diet. So, there’s never really the option (or on very rare occasion) that we can just pop a granola bar in his mouth and leave the house. His breakfast always involves some sort of concoction with eggs, lots of butter and cheese and salt, and a bowl of cereal with whole milk. So, we were incredibly thankful for the week, but a bit frayed by the end of it…and it was just one week. Real school scares me.
Shout out to the BEST third graders around!!! These kids have each touched my life in different ways. I’m sure in a few years they won’t remember our class, but I seriously will never forget them. I got to spend the week with some kids I dearly love, one including Miss Maddie, who Asher just recently made a little video for :). And, can you tell our team color was Orange!
I could go on and on explaining Jeremy’s character, and how it was just a snip-it of the whole time, but that would really ruin the image for people, especially those who weren’t there, ha! Let’s just say, Jeremy was awesome in all the roles he played during SBC week…and, yes, he did actually change into appropriate clothes…but I’m telling you, the underwear over his pants left a WAY lasting impression on the kids, ha!
And, with Summer in full swing, the indoor activities have ramped up here! Who doesn’t like a little dress-up :).
Rachel, you are teaching Asher everyday…just not calling it school. I don’t know too many 3-4 year old children who can count to 100. You obviously know how to make learning fun for Asher.
Thanks for sharing the fun pics from Summer Bible Camp. Jeremy’s outfit was worthy of much attention 🙂
Seeing the pictures and reading about SBC makes me miss church and you all so much! I am glad you all had fun. I am sure that when real school does come you will be ready.
I love seeing the dress up pictures. The girl dress and headband is great! What a cutie!
What a fun post! Looks like fun all-around…you’re such a creative mommy! 🙂 I’m so glad everyone enjoyed SBC and maybe you are getting a little R&R now…hopefully! BTW, that pic of Jeremy is hilarious! I’m positive you will be remembered by those sweet 3rd graders just as you will remember them. You leave a lasting impact. Ugh, I hear you…school scares me too, but I feel like I’m with you…educating my daughter myself terrifies me a bit as well. Something to keep praying about! Hope to catch up with you soon, Rach.
Goooooo Orange!!! Serving with you & being part of SBC was a highlight of my summer! And I’m pretty sure the boys will be talking about Mr. Jeremy’s underpants for many months to come! Such great memories! I’m so glad that God provided a healthy classroom & safe enviornment for Asher. . . and that you were somehow able to squeeze Tobi in & still arrive early. I know He will provide every step of the way through Ash’s education. (P.S.–the AZ State standards say kindergarteners need to be able to count to 30. . . I’m thinking you are waaay ahead of the game. And he’s only 3!!!! Nice job!)
